This past week marked the end of the first phase of the program cut process, with the final four departments on the chopping block having their hearings. For our version of the Big Red Wrap-up, we are sharing how to view the recordings, your last chance to comment, what we learned, news coverage, and our gallery of images below.

What AAUP Learned at APC

The UNL chapter of AAUP came out to show solidarity for all six department cut hearings and the faculty members on APC. Here is what we learned:

Our colleagues in Architecture know how to turn a phrase as well as bridge art and environmental sciences to create landscapes and communities for everyone. We already need to order more of these “Cutting Programs is Like Eating Your Seed Corn” signs! We learned that our colleagues in TMFD are some seriously snappy dressers, as well as contributors of specialized expertise to future-oriented workforce development.

We learned that Educational Administration will bring some educational administrators to school everyone, including Dean Sherri Jones and Dean Marjorie Kostelnik.

We learned that Statistics students and faculty really love statistics, and they want you to love statistics too. Or at least, they will be glad to help everyone all over campus use them more wisely.

We learned that the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences department knows how to throw one heck of a block party.

And lastly, we learned that standing together as faculty and students has made this all a little less awful. We will keep standing together through the next phases of the proposed budget cuts (Chancellor’s final decision on 10/24 and Regents vote on 12/5).
