We are witnessing unprecedented nationwide efforts to undermine support and funding for education at all levels. As a result, Nebraska’s colleges and universities have undergone repeated rounds of budget cuts leading to the loss of academic programs and faculty and significantly undermining educational opportunities in the state. Over the summer, as we were looking ahead to important elections this fall, the state conference of AAUP chapters deployed a survey to candidates for office on issues related to funding and support of higher education.
The candidate responses to this questionnaire provide a timely opportunity for members of the press to educate the public, and for the public to understand where candidates stand on issues related to broad support for higher education.
